Throwback: Valentine's Craft Party

Today I am throwing it back and revisiting a craft party I hosted last February at our old apartment! One last taste of Valentine's before we close the book till next year! I provided delicious lunch food, including donuts from the famous Federal Donuts (a South Philly favorite!). We each made banners: an easy craft that both the rookies and more crafty type could both have fun with! I had a lot of fun decorating the tables, using Target wrapping paper as a runner and creating small rose bouquets in Anthropologie mugs! Check back to this post for more details!

Skinny Chocolate Chip Banana Bread Donuts

I woke up Saturday morning with the need to eat donuts! But given that summer is starting to show up on the horizon, I needed a healthy alternative, so Skinny Chocolate Chip Banana Bread baked donuts were the solution. They were SO good and still just sweet enough to satisfy my donut cravings! I included a free printable in this post so you can make these yourself! This is not an original recipe of mine, but a mix of some I found on the internets! You will need a donut pan which can be purchased for a mere $10 on Amazon and will be to your house in time for Valentine's Day!! I say these seem like a great breakfast-in-bed option for your honey:)

Enjoy!

Stella & Dot Feature

I am dipping my toes into the fashion blogging world today to bring you some of my favorite new jewelry products for the spring! As I mentioned last week, you are invited to my online Stella & Dot trunk show!  It began on Friday, February 6th and runs through the 27th of this month. It is ALL online, so even if you aren't local to me, you can still partake! (We are just missing out on the best part of a party- the food!)

When my Stella & Dot stylist, Ali, introduced me to the spring line, I was just smitten with what it had to offer! One of my favorite pieces were these Flora Chandelier earrings that can be worn three different ways! For $49, you have three different pairs of earrings! I know, I am sure you can't even believe it! The earrings are amazing quality and their versatility can bring you from a day at work to a night out on the town just by switching around the look! I just love the pastel coloring mixed with the darker tone.

Follow the link at the bottom of this post to take a look for yourself! Today is the last day to order in time for Valentine's Day, so give your man one last nudge before you go to bed! Please make any purchases through this link as well and if you need any styling help, Ali is more than willing to help you create a great look for the season!

Before I leave you to browse, I have two last offers exclusively for you, my lovely readers! Each customer who spends $150 or more will be entered into a drawing to win their choice of a silver or gold Arrison Bracelet! There will be two winners. This is a great bracelet to stack or wear alone! AND it's reversible!!

And finally, the first 5 people to book their own online trunk show with Ali will receive a $25 gift card at the completion of their show in addition to the hostess rewards they will receive! This could be a lot of free loot just for inviting your friends to a party! Not bad, eh? If you have any questions, just send me a message!!

Enjoy!!

Here are the three options of how to wear the Flora Chandeliers! They are so easy to change around and it will barely take a minute out of your "getting ready" routine!

For Your Weekend: February 7-8

Here are some links to get you through this cold weekend ahead!

My wonderful, beautiful, amazing sister told me about The Skimm. It is a daily newsletter, delivered right to your inbox that provides you with the top news to start your day. They do all the heavy lifting...er, reading...and break it down for us ladies and give us just the news that's fit to print! Here's an article about the two gals who started it! Wish I had thought of it first!

Thanks to the lovely Skimm, I learned that the FCC is trying to make your internet service a public utility (aka, like your water or electric). This is the third time they are trying to control the internet! Wonder what this means for us? Hopefully costs go down? Fingers crossed!

Here are The Most Important Recipes to Know by Age 30. I am really glad I have 3 years because I have a lot of work to do.

Valentine's Day and our anniversary fall on the same weekend (not intentional!) so my husband lucks out in the gift-getting department! I would have to say an arrangement from The Bouqs is definitely on my wishlist this year.

It's national grapefruit month (puh..lease) so you should grab some of this ruby red fruit this weekend, but make sure you dust it with colored sugar first! (link to photo above)

Jimmy Fallon's Mean Tweets is quite hilarious...although I do feel really bad for some of these people. People can be really rotten! But good to see they make the best of it!

Happy weekend, gals!

You are Invited to My Trunk Show!

You are invited....

to a Stella & Dot Online Trunk Show!

While I usually stick to the home-related posts on my blog, I recently became acquainted with a very nice follower of mine who is a Stella & Dot stylist (if you haven't heard of this brand, check it out now!!)! I believe presenting yourself with style and poise is just as important as a beautifully decorated home, and I hope you feel the same, so stick with me here! When I saw the new spring line, I fell in love! This Havana Pendant Necklace and Havana Cuff shown above are inspired by vintage resort style and can be worn both on the sand or out to dinner! These are just a few of the pieces already on my wishlist! And I know from experience that the quality of the products are top-notch!

To share this amazing line with you, I am inviting you to my Online Trunk Show, which starts tomorrow February 6, 2015! It is completely ONLINE, so there is no physical event to attend, so if you live in Timbuktu, you can JOIN! (actually, I hope they ship to Timbuktu...better check on that first...but you get the point!) Just click on the link below to view the site and place any orders through this link!

I will be featuring one of my favorite products on the blog in the next week, so stay tuned to see more about how you can wear the Flora Chandelier Earrings three different ways! (It's actually really cool...I wouldn't lie to you).

You Know You Live Like a Grown-Up When...

How do you know when you have finally achieved adult status in your apartment or home? Here's when you know you have arrived…

1. You purchase items for your home that coordinate in a room and don't just buy things at random.

2. Things like breakfast nooks excite you and you even consider building one.

3. You hang your art on your walls and ditch the posters. The "lean method" is ok, but only if on purpose.

 4. You style your coffee table…and know what it means to "style" your coffee table.

5. You have your own desk space.

6. You know just a couch is no longer enough.

7. You realize rugs cost your whole paycheck…and you know you have no choice.

Trending: Built-In Shelves

I just love built-in shelves! I think they are classy and timeless and can come in such a variety of forms and colors! Plus they are easy to reinvent- all it requires is switching around what's on them! The key is to keep a consistent color scheme throughout so they look styled and not just a place to store junk!

My favorite is the white shelves on white wall look, where everything just blends together. Probably my favorite because I have such built-ins in my living room! On the eastern side of our South Philly rowhome, some previous owner closed in two windows, so we had these awkward alcoves sitting side-by-side and they needed something! So I commissioned my dad to build shelves in the spaces and he did! They now house my growing milk glass collection!

Below is a picture of one of my spaces (not 100% polished but you get the idea...), followed by some more inspiring built-ins I have scrounged up!!

The Interior Design Books You Need Now: A Review

Pinterest and Instagram are my favorite places these days for design and home decorating inspiration. There are so many "everyday" inspiring people out there and I could (ok...I do) spend all day, everyday scrolling through my IG feed and loving the ideas I come across. But I also believe nothing beats flipping the pages of a book, especially if those books also serve as visual pieces on your coffee table! The four books below are the perfect balance of inspiring imagery and well-written prose.
1.  Black & White (and a bit in between) is a book written by interior designer Celerie Kemble (um...love that name...) which showcases the black and white work of top peers in her field. She provides expert advice on making this color couplet work, while adding in her own wit. I would vote this the "prettiest" book to adorn my coffee table, because yes, I do rate books by their covers.

2. Anthology is actually a magazine. I know, I am cheating. But there are no rules in decorating, so if you like the look of something and it provides a good read, then why not line it up with the rest of the paperbacks! Anthology is based out of San Francisco and provides 120 pages of design inspiration and beauty. It's great. You should get it.

3. The Nesting Place is actually my favorite book in this pile to pick up in read, because it's all about Myquillyn Smith's journey to realizing that a home does not have to be perfect to be beautiful. She teaches how to embrace the natural imperfection of daily living, and love it! It is such a perfect reminder for all of us as we struggle to compare ourselves and our homes to the next person! The best part of a house is making it into a home and filling it with love, family, and memories...the aesthetics are always extra!

4. Last but not least on my current favorites list is Element Of Style by Erin Gates. It is packed with honest inspiration, advice, and lessons learned about creating a home that fits your style. It is a lot like The Nesting Place in that it teaches about the struggles of real life and coming to terms that perfection is not realistic or worth it. Erin is amazing at what she does and provides 336 pages of beautiful design inspiration.

I hope you have the opportunity to check out one or all of these books! Interior design books are few and far between these days, so when you find a good one, scoop it up! The internet can be a wonderful place, but having a book in your hand that you can snuggle up with on the couch is so much better!

Ps. The candle is made by Olliver Lifestyle, a Philadelphia based company.
