Home for the Holidays

I spent some time decking the halls today and had fun throwing some boxwood around! It is definitely my favorite greenery! I bought a 20' garland from Home Depot and used it around the art above my couch. I had enough left over to make a wreath for my front door and a small sprig for the mirror! Christmastime is my favorite!

Lately on Instagram

Here's the latest and greatest over on my Instagram, which by the way has a NEW NAME!
I am now under @HomeWithYouShop! Make sure you follow!

1. The month of October is filled with so many opportunities...apple picking, pumpkin carving, leaf raking...and tailgating! I have never tailgated at a professional football game before, let alone a Philadelphia Eagle's game! These people mean business down in South Philly! Those grills are burning and beers in hand at 9:00am! This was my spread that I brought to the game a few weeks ago! We had such a great time! (The next morning was rough...haha)

2. Target doesn't waste any time! They are already decked in Christmas decor and I am LOVING it! My eyes are especially glued to these faux fur stools which are too cute! Hope they stick around and make it to the clearance shelf!

3. My bed looks kind of sloppy in this picture, but I am really loving my new duvet and sham covers from Pottery Barn! I think they look lovely with this throw pillow from Anthropologie!

4. Last night I spent time with my mom and sister in the city doing a little shopping! We discovered this really cool store on Chestnut Street (Philadelphia) that sells 100% American-made products! It reminded us of a Ralph Lauren store! So beautiful!

5. While out shopping, we swang by West Elm where my sister and I had a good time finding things for our Christmas wish list!

DIY: Repainting Ceramic

Have you ever tried to repaint an already-finished piece of ceramic? It's shiny and nothing wants to stick to it? Well I found a solution!

I spent this past Saturday working on some things in my guest room and with a low budget, decided to try my hand at repainting this ugly old ceramic lamp base that I had in the basement! I went to Lowe's to check out their options and found just what I needed to complete this project and revamp a lamp: Valspar Plastic Primer and Valspar Premium Enamel multi-purpose primer/spraypaint! (Although the colored paint contains a primer, you will need the plastic primer as well to really create a good base!) Here are the steps below:

What you will need:
Your ceramic product of choice
blue painters tape
Valspar Plastic Primer
Valspar Premium Enamel in color of your choice
drop cloth

Steps:

1. Find an open space outside where you can lay out your drop cloth and have ample ventilation!
2. Cover the cord of your lamp or any other area on your object that you do not want sprayed with blue painter's tape (painters tape is designed for easy removal in case you have never used it before!).
3. Wipe down the object to remove any dust/other particles and make sure it is dry.
4. Following instructions on the can, spray the object thoroughly with the Plastic Primer. Cover all areas.
5. Allow primer to dry completely- this may take over an hour or more depending on object.
6. Following the instructions on the can, now spray your object with your paint color. Cover the object completely and evenly.
7. Allow time to dry completely. If second coat needed, apply as you did above and let dry again.

Not so hard, right? And really, if you know how to use a spray paint can, you're really letting the product do all the work. So far the paint is sticking to my lamp quite well! It's not in a high traffic area (I mean, how often do you really touch a lamp anyways, aside from the switch), so we will see if it withstands time, but I will keep you posted!

I also used this technique on the (non-ceramic) frame in the pictures! Never hurts to change up colors with a little spray paint!

Stay tuned for more later where I talk about how I changed the look of this lamp shade!

Pumpkin Spice Donuts

I made pumpkin donuts this past weekend because I just can't wait any longer for fall!! They were so easy and turned out perfectly moist and not overly sweet.
Here is the recipe...

Ingredients:
(Yields about 18 donuts; I used a Wilton donut pan)
1 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1 3/4 tsp baking powder
1 1/4 tsp salt
3/4 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
1/3 tsp ground ginger
3/4 cup granulated sugar
3/4 cup packed light-brown sugar
1/2 cup canola oil
3 large eggs
1 1/2 cups canned pumpkin puree
1 tsp vanilla extract

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Butter your doughnut pan (I used a 6-hole pan).

In a mixing bowl whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger; set aside.
In a seperate mixing bowl, whisk together brown sugar and granulated sugar.
Add canola oil, eggs, pumpkin puree, and vanilla. Mix until well blended.
Slowly add dry mixture and mix until well combined.
Fill a plastic bag with the batter and cut the tip off of one corner.
Use this as a piping bag to fill each hole with batter.

Bake in preheated oven for about 13-15 minutes. Cool doughnuts slightly.
In a seperate large resealable bag, shake together 1/3 cup sugar and 1.5 tsp cinnamon. Gently shake each donut in bag to lightly coat with sugar mixture.
Place on cooling rack. Store in airtight container.

5 Inspiring Breakfast Nooks

What's for breakfast? Nooks. You need one in your house, especially if you have a small dining space to work with and need some seating for kids or guests or a small fam! I am thinking of eventually building a built-in bench in the "dining area" (if you can call it that) of my city rowhome. A bench along the wall, a small round table, and maybe 2 chairs would be the perfect addition. I just think these nooks are so inspiring and hope you do, too! For more inspiration of this sort, check out my Pinterest board dedicated to the topic. Best meal of the day? Definitely breakfast...

Take Me To: Brooklyn, NY

Remember that time I posted all about Charleston, SC in an attempt to convince my husband to take me? Well, it worked and we were planning on going and then it just didn't fit in our budget as the time got closer. So we decided to take off of work for a few days and head to our family's beach house in Cape May, NJ instead. WELL that seems to also be falling through the cracks when we found out the weather report for the weekend reads chilly and rainy. So alas, I am left to choose another adventure.
I convinced him to take me to NYC on Saturday. He's never been to Chelsea Market (oh my gosh have you ever seen that place?! It's the bomb.) and given the foodie that he is, I think he would just love it!

While my mind has been in Big Apple- mode, I realized another trip I would REALLY like to take is one right across the bridge, to Brooklyn! Actually, this is more focused on the North Williamsburg region on down. So I have compiled a list of a few things I would love to check out and you should too if you so desire!!

I think if you are going to stay in Brooklyn, you should choose a bed and breakfast. This one looks so perfectly quaint and simple and relaxing! Each room is so unique! Or if you are more of the hotel type and money ain't no thang, stay at the Whythe Hotel, an old factory-turned-luxury-hotel on the waterfront in Williamsburg. Nu Hotel is also just about one of the coolest places I have ever seen.

Did you know there is more than one Brooklyn store front with a secret identity? The Brooklyn Superhero Supply is probably my favorite... a front for a tutoring program plus you can buy a cape. Don't tell my husband. Also among these are some speakeasies if you need to drink incognito.

Trying to grab a bite? Check out Pies 'n' Thighs. Talk about your comfort food. Or for something a little more reserved, go to brunch at Egg. Head to Mast Brothers Chocolate for dessert and then to wash it all down, the Brooklyn Brewery

Check out the Brooklyn Flea if you're in need of some antiques and vintage goods and if you're still hungry, Smorgasburg is basically a flea market of food, minus the flea.

End the day with a walk over the Brooklyn Bridge  or a stroll through Prospect Park.

If you live in Brooklyn or have spent time there before and have more suggestions to offer, please let me know! I would love more input and look forward to visiting soon:)

Rifle [Wall] Paper Love

Have you seen Rifle Paper Co.'s newest line of wallpaper? I found the collection on Hygge and West, a great site with wallpaper from even the likes of one of my favorite bloggers, Oh Joy!
I would personally love to put the Pineapple print in a bathroom!
They all come in different shades, too, which allows for so many options! Now if only it was in the budget!!

Recent Loves and Current Obsessions

These are some of the things I have shared over on Instagram lately. Follow me at @mrseisel for more daily posts!

1. My tropical plant from IKEA is the best pop of color in my otherwise beige and neutral living room.
(Couch and basket from Pottery Barn; Pillows and plant from IKEA; Rug from RugsUSA.com)

2. These are my unfinished hack of these Anthropologie Pillows. I bought pillows from Ikea and added trim (with some hot glue...no sewing here!). I would like to add more poms for volume, so maybe I will share the tutorial when I actually complete them.

3. I recently signed up for Birchbox and received my first box in August. It was the collaboration box with The Everygirl blog...which I LOVE by the way. The samples were fun, but I do want to receive a few more boxes before I REALLY decide if it's worth it.

4. One of my good friends from high school who I have known since 4th grade is getting married next month so her bachelorette party took place last weekend. We went to Annapolis, MD and had a blast! My other friend and I gifted her with this Triangl Underwear set! Check out their site! The colors really are as vibrant as they look online! And she says it fits great!

 5. Oh just a nook in my house with some white stuff, including one of my favorite Rifle Paper Co cards and my DIY abstract art. Whoa...sorry about the grainy pic.

 6. My obsession with pom poms is real and this tunic with pom pom sleeves is pretty cool. I also love this new necklace from Jcrew.

7. Aaaand here's the sailboat we went on in that said bachelorette party in Annapolis. It was cold and rainy but that's ok! Still beats being at home on the couch!

adding pinterest script 3. Changing the Position of the Pin it! button The cool thing about this code is that you have some freedom over where the Pinterest button for Blogger will go over the image. Take a look at the code that you just copied and pasted into the HTML for the word 'center'.
